This quarry, called Ortensia is situated in Carrara, Italy and is part of the marble basin of Colonnata at an elevation of 3,000 feet above sea level.
The quarry has been producing Carrara Marble since the 1850’s and their marble is known for its fine grain, high strength, lack of voids and low liquid absorption characteristics making it well suited for high wear applications such as floors, food service areas and kitchen and bath counters.
Due to these characteristics this marble is the only one used to create the holding tanks for the seasoning of the “Lardo do Colonnata” famous all over the world.
These performance characteristics and its popular appearance have made this material in demand the world over. The quarry’s production is 35,000-40,000 tons/year.
Fox Marble has had a relationship with this quarry for over 20 years. From this historical relationship and the quarry’s understanding of Fox’s clientele needs we have been able to receive only they’re most select materials.
